When the northeast monsoon scales the Central Mountain Range and comes down the slope as fall winds, or Luo-Shan-Feng, the instantaneous intensity can rival a mild typhoon. Hai-Kou Village in Checheng Township, located in the Luo-Shan-Feng Designated Scenic Area, hosted the third Luoshanfeng Arts Festival last year. As the fish market and the waiting room of the port underwent renovations, we created a series of corresponding wayfinding system designs.

In terms of the overall design, we wanted to recreate the dynamic feel of a strong gust, as if the pieces of papers are scattered by the wind to fly towards the lamp posts, adhere to the walls and dispersed across the corners of the area. The distorted forms of the paper brings to mind the instant a powerful gust hits.

In the details of several main signs, we employed fretwork to present a visualization of the wind on the panel so visitors can see the landscaping through the signage whose visual transparency adds a layered sense of movement. The image of the blowing wind is incorporated in the design of the graphics as well, allowing the wayfinding system to present a consistent personality in all aspects, from the grand scheme down to the minute details.
